The Big Picture TV was delighted to welcome Liam Gardner of The Statics to the Youth Cafe to perform. Formed in late 2010, The Statics are a four-piece Dublin outfit consisting of Liam Gardner (Lead Vocal/Guitar), Daragh O’Connell (Backing Vocal/ Guitar), Jacqueline Campion (Drums) and Thomas Nugent (Bass Guitar). Mixing the pop sensibilities of the Beatles, the snarling vocals of The Arctic Monkeys and not forgetting the rhythmic acoustic guitars of the Everlys (and hopefully their harmonies!) The Statics are a truly powerful force live and on record. The Statics sound clocks in somewhere between The La’s, The Arctic Monkeys, The Kinks and the Coral; all this without losing their own vision, imagination, originality and downright danceability.

Next up on The Big Picture TV is the very wonderful Miriam Ingram. Miriam has released two albums to date, “Trampoline” and “Trampolonica”. Both albums have received considerable accolades, with Totally Dublin saying, “If Hieronymus Bosch were alive today, this is the music he would paint to.” She is currently preparing material for her third album. She performs live with a rather great eleven piece band including John Dermody, Colin J.Morris, Kim Porcelli, Enda Bates, Katherine Atkinson, Carol Keogh, Sinéad Martin, Darragh O’Kelly, Hugh O’Neill and Diolmhain Ingram-Roche.

As the Irish Times points out, “it’s not every day that a relatively-unknown Irish singer is bigged-up by KanYe West” but this is the sort of thing that has happened to Valerie Francis since the release of her debut album, Slow Dynamo. The video for her single ‘Punches’ – which caught West’s eye – won IMTV’s Video of the Year, while Slow Dynamo was nominated for a clutch of awards including Choice Music Prize and won Album of the Year in the Irish Independent.
Valerie joined Dillon in The Big Picture Youth Cafe for a quick chat and treated us to a song...
